Service Description

This Youth Learn to Sew March Break Camp is a 4-day immersive sewing experience designed to teach young makers real sewing skills in a supportive and encouraging environment. Running March 16–19 from 11:00am–2:00pm, each session offers double the usual sewing time, allowing students to build confidence, develop practical skills, and complete meaningful projects they’ll be proud of. Each day builds on the last, helping students grow their independence at the sewing machine while learning essential techniques step by step. Everything is included in the program fee — sewing machines, fabric, notions, and tools — so students can focus fully on learning and creating. Materials are prepared for each project so students can concentrate on skill development, accuracy, and safe machine use. Parents simply register, drop off their child with a water bottle and snack, and we take care of the rest. Day 1: Sewing Machine Basics & Scrunchies Students begin by learning the parts of a sewing machine and how it works. We cover threading the machine, winding and changing a bobbin, controlling speed, machine safety, and guided practice before moving into their first project. Students then create scrunchies while practicing basic stitching and building comfort at the machine. Day 2: Personalized Pillowcase Students create their own personalized pillowcase using fabric provided in class. This project introduces straight stitching, seam construction, and finishing techniques while building accuracy and confidence. Day 3: Drawstring Bag Students sew a drawstring bag while learning to work with layers, create casings, and turn projects neatly. This class strengthens coordination and introduces practical construction techniques used in many sewing projects. Day 4: Library Book Bag In the final session, students create a durable library book bag that brings together all the skills they’ve learned throughout the week. This project reinforces independence at the machine and provides a strong sense of accomplishment. By the end of the camp, students will leave with finished projects, practical sewing skills, and the confidence to use a sewing machine independently and continue sewing at home.
